Step 1: Install a popular virus protection software.
If you don't have virus protection, click below for a trial version of Symantec's Norton AntiVirus
2007. It is
important to keep the virus definitions up to date as new virus's and worms are
detected very frequently.
Step 2: Enable a Firewall
You should make sure you have a firewall in place before taking any
further actions against infections. If you have a hardware firewall in
place for your network, or if you use the firewall included with Windows XP,
most worms are most likely blocked. If your computer has been infected, a
firewall will only help limit the effects and damages. You will need to
take further steps to rid infections. Click here for XP build in firewall
protection.
Step 3: Install the Required Updates
To help protect your computer against worms and other intruders, you
should download and install all security updates associated with your operating
system. This CD does include the latest Service Packs. You can click here to
extract them
directly from this CD (Fast Install Time), or you can go to
Microsoft Web site
to check for Updates by opening "Microsoft's Internet Explorer" going to tools and click on "Windows
Update".
