Help Connect

This help guide is for those who are having trouble connecting.

  • Check you modem connections.  Some of the most common troubles are phone line connections to your modem.  Noisy lines can cause low connection rates and disconnects.

  • Check your Area Code settings.  An incorrect area code can cause numbers to be dialed incorrectly.

  • Check for call waiting features.  If you don't have call waiting, be sure the call waiting code is not set.

  • Do you need to dial anything to get an outside line? If not be sure it's not set.

  • Check the phone number.

  • Is your phone cord connected appropriately?

  • Is the "Numlock" key on? This could be causing your password to be entered incorrectly.
  • Is the "Capslock" key on? This also could be causing your password to be entered incorrectly.
  • Are you using the right user name and password?
  • Has anything else been connected to your phone line where you're calling from? Additional caller id boxes, fax machines, more PC modems, can sometimes cause problems.
  • Have you installed any new software or made changes to existing software recently that might be impacting your modem connectivity? Sometimes an email program will disconnect the modem connection after it has checked for email.
  • Does your modem have the latest driver available from the manufacturer? You should check with the manufacturer's web page for any updates.
  • Do you also have a network interface card installed in your PC? The presence of this hardware or the software settings could be interfering with the operation of your modem. A simple test would be to remove the NIC and its software settings to see if your modem starts working properly.
